The 5.0 -waters of buildings in the largest city in Türkiye, Istanbul, shook Thursday.

There were no immediate reports of severe damage in the city, with a population of 16 million people, said the Istanbul Governor's office on X, adding that its field teams had started inspections.

The earthquake occurred at 2.55 pm in the Marmara Sea, southwest of Istanbul and near the coastal town of Marmarrrigligli, along the geological rift line, which has long been considered a threat to the city.

In April, more than 150 people were injured when they jumped from the buildings after an earthquake 6.2 in Istanbul, on the occasion of one of the strongest tremors in the city for years.
