An earthquake stuns the two camps north of Esterhazy

In addition to the earthquake, there were high winds that night, a snowstorm, and weather-related power outages throughout the area, making for an uncomfortable night for some people in the area.

Leslie Fayant Eddy was camping with her family north of Esterhazy when the quake struck, and she says the quake shook the camper amazingly.

“It was a triple whammy. We were out camping, we were dealing with snow and high winds, and now another bump out of the ground!” “We're actually from Yorkton, but we spend a lot of time in Esterhazy where some good friends of ours live,” said Fayant Eddy, whose night was cut short by the quake. “This time we were there to ride the dirt bikes and quad trails, something we do every Thanksgiving. Usually a bunch of us go with campers, but this year there were only two brave campers. It was to the point where I thought maybe something had fallen on us, or a car or something had pushed us, but there was no bang or anything. It was crazy because seconds before it happened, it sounded like the thunder was rolling.”

“My eldest daughter said it gave the sensation that she was falling, like the trembling feeling you get in your heart. Then I heard some notifications on my phone and discovered that we had just had an earthquake. The other camper that was with us was about five meters away, so we were talking back and forth wondering if we were still on our pads. So I got my coat and my flashlight, and you can see that The snow on our pads has been pushed away. One of the things you said I noticed was that my pegs moved, I have never had my pegs move in decades of camping. We walked around the yard a bit to see if anything else had happened, but everything else seemed fine.

“This is definitely the first time we have felt the earthquake, but our friends in Esterhazy experienced the earthquake in August, and the epicenter was very close to them in that earthquake, so the feeling was very strong.

“We were so freaked out when it first happened, we didn't really know what it was. In fact, our neighbors in the other campervan had their water bottles falling off the island, and their TV even fell out of the wall. I stayed up most of the night after that!”

Earthquakes are common in the Esterhazy region
