Afghanistan Earthquake Live Updates: A powerful 6.3 magnitude earthquake struck near Mazar-i-Sharif in Afghanistan, one of the country's largest cities with a population of about 523,000, in the early hours of Monday. According to the US Geological Survey, the depth of the quake was 28 kilometers (17.4 miles) near Mazar-i-Sharif. The US Geological Survey also warned of “significant losses” and a “potentially widespread” disaster, the BBC reported.

Fears of casualties: A 6.3-magnitude earthquake near the northern Afghan city of Mazar-i-Sharif killed at least 20 people and injured 320 others, according to an official in the Afghan provincial health department. “A total of 320 wounded and 20 martyrs have been reported and taken to health centers as of this morning,” said Samim Joyanda, spokesman for the health department in Samangan, near Mazar-i-Sharif.
