AC/DC brings earthquake-level noise to their first Australian show in 10 years

AC/DC's first Australian show in 10 years recorded earthquake-level shaking in Melbourne.

The rock giants performed at the 100,000-capacity Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) on Wednesday (November 12) as they opened the Australian leg of their PWR UP tour.

The noise combined with the vibrations caused by the cheering crowd bouncing in unison set off the city's seismic equipment.

The Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) reported that senior scientist at the Melbourne Earthquake Research Centre, Adam Pascal, said: “The sound waves that people were experiencing close by and feeling something through their bodies, that's equivalent to what our seismographs feel. We're picking up the movement of the ground, we're not picking up sound from the air.”

“So, you have speakers on the ground pumping out the vibrations and they are transmitted through the ground, but also the crowd jumping up and down feeds the energy into the ground.”

A resident who lives 10 kilometers from the MCG reported that he could hear the party.

The set saw AC/DC perform Bon Scott-era track Jailbreak live for the first time in 34 years, as well as If You Want Blood (You Got It) and Riff Raff.
