The USGS reported “Good evening Northern California! Did you feel the 4.0 magnitude earthquake about 4 miles south of San Juan Bautista at 12:48 p.m.”

“JUST IN: A 4.0 magnitude earthquake occurred northeast of Salinas, California,” a meteorologist shared on Facebook.

Reactions to the earthquake

Many people in Salinas reacted to the earthquake. “I felt exactly like this,” one person wrote on Facebook. Another commented, “4.3 magnitude earthquake near Salinas, felt by dogs in California!!! Dang.”

People in Hollister also reacted to the earthquake. “Wow. Pretty good earthquake. I'm in Hollister. Anyone else feeling it,” one person wrote on Facebook. “You'd think we'd be used to it by now but it's still scary,” one person commented.

Also in Monterrey, people felt the quake, prompting the Tsunami Warning Center to send a message that there was no danger after the tremors.

“Just felt another earthquake! The ground here is packed! 4.3 magnitude in Monterey County! Felt 3 magnitude in 2 days,” one person wrote.

Another added, “EDIT: This earthquake is clearly heading towards California… We just had a 4.3 magnitude earthquake closer to us and I'm seeing reports from near the Oregon border making its way down. Well, we felt it… It really shook the house! A 3.9 magnitude earthquake about 10 miles away. We don't get it very often here in the Monterey area but we felt it!”

“Did you feel it? There have been a series of earthquakes in our area, and this is one of the most recent,” the government's Facebook page said.

Reactions also came from elsewhere. “We just had a pretty good earthquake in Santa Cruz,” one person said. Another noted, “Earthquake. Small earthquake in Watsonville.” Just one day ago, a 4.0 magnitude earthquake struck the city of San Jose.
