A 3.2 magnitude earthquake shakes the San Francisco Bay Area

An earthquake measuring 3.2 on the Richter scale was felt in the San Francisco Bay Area on Friday evening.

The epicenter of the latest quake, which occurred at 5:03 p.m. Friday, was over the Pacifica residential neighborhood in San Mateo County, about 4 miles south of San Francisco's southern border, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The quake was felt in San Francisco, Oakland, Berkeley and most parts of San Mateo County.

Monday evening's quake was the second quake of magnitude 3 or greater to occur near the San Andreas Fault on Friday.

On Friday morning, a 3.4 magnitude earthquake was felt near the Monterey Bay area. Several earthquakes of magnitude 3 or greater were also detected in Riverside County starting on Thanksgiving evening.

The largest quake was a magnitude 3.8 about 7 miles southwest of the detached community of Idyllwild-Pine Cove. This earthquake, which occurred at 5:36 p.m. Thursday, was 11 miles southeast of Hemet, 19 miles southwest of Palm Springs, and 24 miles southwest of Palm Desert.
