Trump says Ukraine peace deal 'very tight' after 'terrible' meeting with Zelensky | BBC News

Donald Trump and Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky described their recent meeting in Florida as “tremendous” and said significant progress had been made. President Trump says a peace deal to end the war between Russia and Ukraine is “very close.” Speaking after the meeting, President Zelensky said the 20-point peace plan was 90% agreed, while Donald Trump said the security guarantee was “close to 95%”. Zelensky said that it was a “key milestone for achieving a lasting peace” in Ukraine. However, the US president also said that there are “one or two very thorny issues” to be resolved. Among others, the future of the Donbas region of Ukraine, which has been declared by Russian President Putin. Trump confirmed that the issue had not been resolved even as he said a deal was getting closer. Notably, Trump and Zelensky did not offer a timeline, vowing that their teams would meet again in the coming weeks.
