Scores of protesters marched through the Iranian capital and other cities in what video showed was the biggest show of force by opponents of the clerical establishment in years. Demonstrations in Tehran and the second city of Mashhad on Thursday evening were not dispersed by security forces. It was the 12th straight day of unrest fueled by anger over Iran's currency collapse and has spread to more than 100 cities and towns in Iran's 31 provinces, according to rights groups. The US Human Rights Activists News Agency said at least 34 protesters – five of them children – and eight security personnel were killed, and another 2,270 protesters were arrested. The Norwegian Iran Human Rights Monitor said at least 45 protesters, including eight children, were killed by security forces.
