A 4.9 magnitude earthquake strikes the city of Erzincan, eastern Türkiye

A 4.9-magnitude earthquake struck Türkiye’s eastern Erzincan province on Friday afternoon, with authorities confirming no injuries or property damage as field inspections continued.

The earthquake occurred at 2:16 pm local time, and its epicenter was in the Kima area near the village of Hakpilir, according to the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD). The earthquake occurred at a shallow depth of about 4.52 km.

The quake was also felt in the neighboring provinces of Tunceli, Gomushane, Elazig and Bayburt, causing a brief panic among residents.

The governor confirms that there is no damage after the earthquake

The governor of Erzincan, Hamza Aydoğu, announced on social media that there were no losses of life or property.

“Fortunately, there were no losses of life or property in the 4.9 magnitude earthquake that occurred in Erzincan Kima,” Aydogdu said.

He added: “May God protect our nation and our citizens in Erzincan from all disasters and misfortunes. I wish you a speedy recovery, Erzincan.”

The Disaster and Emergency Management Department confirmed that no adverse conditions were reported following the earthquake and that field inspections are continuing.

“After the 4.9-magnitude earthquake that occurred at 2:16 p.m. in Kema District of Erzincan Province and was also felt by residents of Tunceli, Gumushane, Elazig and Bayburt districts, there is currently no adverse situation,” the Disaster and Emergency Management Administration stated.

“AFAD” added, “Field inspections are continuing. We express our best wishes for recovery to our affected citizens.”

The Erzincan Governor’s Office said that relevant units began field inspections immediately after the earthquake occurred. The statement added that no negative reports were received from citizens to the relevant institutions.
