San Jose Earthquakes sign Niko Tsakiris to a contract extension

The San Jose Earthquakes have signed midfielder Niko Tsakiris to a new contract through 2028-29 with an option through 2029-30, the San Jose Earthquakes announced on Wednesday.

The 20-year-old US youth international will continue to have a spot on the U22 Initiative roster.

“The San Jose Earthquakes are pleased to announce the signing of Niko Tsakiris to a long-term contract,” said Bruce Arena, Athletic Director and Head Coach of the San Jose Earthquakes.

“As a local player in the U22 initiative, we believe Nico has a bright future and look forward to his continued development and contributions to our team.”

Since his professional debut in 2022, Tsakiris has made 71 appearances for the Earthquakes in all competitions, recording 2g/5a.

Internationally, Tsakiris participated in 31 matches with the United States national team at various youth levels, especially with the U-20 national team. Most recently, he featured in the 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup, achieving 2g/1a.

“As a local player who graduated from the COEX Academy, it has been a great learning experience to grow and develop at this club as a professional footballer and as a person,” Tsakiris said.

“I’m proud to be able to commit to the San Jose community for the foreseeable future and can’t wait to continue achieving our goals together as a club.”

San Jose opens the 2026 season on February 21 when it hosts Sporting Kansas City (10:30 p.m. ET | Apple TV).
