Earthquake in Kolkata today: Earthquakes felt as 5.4 magnitude earthquake hits West Bengal, epicenter in Bangladesh

Authorities said that a strong earthquake measuring 5.4 struck Kolkata on Friday, and people felt the tremors in the city and other parts of the state. The epicenter of the earthquake was reportedly in Bangladesh. The earthquake reportedly occurred at around 1.22pm in the western state capital of Benal.

Many people took to social media to express that they felt the tremors and saw fans and other items shaking in their homes. No injuries or property losses have been reported so far. This is the second time an earthquake has struck Kolkata this month. On February 3, the city was hit by a mild earthquake. At that time, the tremors were felt across Kolkata and other parts of West Bengal. Officials said the epicenter of the quake was in Myanmar.

How did the citizens react?

The earthquake was also felt by residents of parts of neighboring states and Bangladesh. According to EMSC data, the quake occurred about 70 miles east of Akyab, Myanmar. Tremors were felt in parts of West Bengal, including Kolkata, as well as in neighboring Bangladesh. The German Research Center for Geosciences said the earthquake occurred at a depth of 10 kilometers, or 6.21 miles.
