A film about child survivors of the Turkish earthquake is shown in London

A poignant documentary highlighting resilience following the devastating earthquakes that struck Türkiye on February 6, 2023, will be screened in London this month, with proceeds going to support child survivors.

Titled “Just Like Before,” the 35-minute film directed by Sibylle Karakurt will be screened on April 17, from 6:30pm to 8:30pm at Unilever House in Victoria Embankment.

The documentary follows the lives of Yarin Ciftci and Ali Dinç, two young girls who lost their limbs in earthquakes. Their paths meet at the Child Health Center of Çukurova University in Adana, where they form a deep friendship that becomes a powerful testimony of healing, solidarity and hope.

Along with its personal narrative, the film also highlights the impact of popular mobilization in times of crisis. It showcases the CATE project led by the Bridge to Türkiye Fund (BTF), which has galvanized the Turkish diaspora in the United States. Through more than 250 community events, the initiative was able to raise more than $1 million to support the Child Health Center.

Funds generated from these efforts have been used to provide prosthetics, physical therapy and educational scholarships to children affected by the disaster.

The organizers of the show in London announced that all proceeds from the event will be donated to the Child Health Centre, which was established within Çukurova University with a contribution from the Turkish Pediatric Society. The center focuses on rehabilitation and long-term support for children who were rescued from the rubble and underwent amputations.

Founded in 2003 by Turkish-American volunteers, the Bridge to Türkiye Fund is a US-based non-profit organization dedicated to strengthening relations between the Turkish diaspora and civil society initiatives in Türkiye. The organization supports projects in the areas of education, youth well-being, disaster response and environmental sustainability.

To date, BTF has raised more than $30 million, reaching more than 1 million children with support from a global network of 40,000 donors and volunteers.

The London event aims not only to raise funds, but also to keep international attention on the long-term recovery needs of earthquake survivors, especially children facing life-changing injuries.
