According to Oliver Darcy’s Status newsletter, Weiss is looking to make big changes to the long-running news program, which reportedly includes removing 60 Minutes executive producer Tanya Simon. As previously reported, Simon’s one-year contract is expected to expire soon.

However, CBS News staffers told Status that if Simon is let go, Weiss could have a revolution on her hands. “It will be an earthquake-like event,” one employee said. “If Tanya leaves, you can expect the others to leave.”

Another staffer added: “Anyone familiar with the dynamics of 60 Minutes knows that presenting a weekly investigative news program that consistently generates profits, finds an audience, and publishes meaningful news is extremely difficult — add to that an unsupportive corporate president and near-constant leaks about your death, and it’s nearly impossible.”

“What Tanya and her team are able to bring together each week, not just as journalists, but as team leaders, is truly remarkable,” they continued. “That’s why she has the loyalty of her team.”

It was reported last week that Weiss, who took over as editor-in-chief of CBS News last October, is looking to renew 60 Minutes after the current season ends in May. A source familiar with the situation told Darcey that the co-founder of The Free Press is ready to “blow it up as soon as the season is over.”

“Barry wants to make the show more difficult,” another source told the New York Post. “Nobody’s talking about 60 Minutes on Monday mornings. She wants to put her stamp on 60 Minutes, and how to do that is to either get rid of the best producers or the best reporters.”

While Simon’s position appears to be in jeopardy, a CBS insider previously told the newspaper that the executive producer “aligned” with Weiss’ vision, suggesting that firing her would essentially be “looting the place.”

As one of his colleagues told Darcy, “Contrary to what we have read elsewhere, I believe that Barry W [CBS News President] Tom [Cibrowski] He knows [how important Simon is to the team]”.

Vice came under fire last December after it retracted a 60 Minutes report on the massive CECOT prison in El Salvador, which was inappropriate for President Donald Trump. The report, which was scheduled to air on December 21, was finally broadcast on January 18.

While the future of Simon and other 60 Minutes staff is still up in the air, one staff member who will not be returning next season is reporter Anderson Cooper. In February, the CNN anchor announced that he was leaving the show to spend more time with his family.
