Oseniy Buda scores two goals as the San Jose Earthquakes win over Los Angeles

LOS ANGELES – Oseniy Buda scored twice in the second half, ending Hugo Lloris’s scoreless run to start the season at 593 minutes, and the San Jose Earthquakes stunned Los Angeles FC 4-1 on Sunday night in an early Western Conference clash.

San Jose (7-1-0) moves into a first-place showdown with the Vancouver Whitecaps in the Western Conference and Fan’s Shield races in the Earthquakes’ second season under coach Bruce Arena.

Daniel de Souza Brito missed the opportunity to equal Lloris with a sixth clean sheet with an own goal scored by Red Roberts in the 74th minute. Daniel made three saves.

Buda used assists from new signing Timo Werner – his third – and Bo Leroux to score in the 53rd minute after a scoreless first half.

Werner, who has been sidelined for the past two weeks with a lower-body injury, collected a pass from Leroux three minutes later and scored his first MLS goal for a 2-0 lead. Leroux’s assists give him four goals, matching his total last season in 33 games as a rookie.

Ryan Porteous’ own goal in the 59th minute made it 3-0 within six minutes.

Buda’s fourth goal of the season was capped off by scoring in the 80th minute. Niko Tsakiris notched his fifth assist in his career.

Lloris finished with two steals in the second straight loss for Los Angeles (5-2-1), which ranks third in the West. Lloris is coming off a 2-1 loss to the Portland Timbers.

San Jose won all four of its road games.

LAFC was 6-0-1 at BMO Stadium in all contests entering play, outscoring its opponents 17-1.br/]
