Criticism from Catholics around the world continues as US President Donald Trump’s feud with Pope Leo escalates. Trump said Pope Leo XIV was “weak,” and posted an AI-generated image on Truth Social that many people believe depicted him as Jesus. The now-deleted image showed Trump in a hospital bed recovering a patient. He said he pretended to be a doctor. The publication of the picture comes hours after the president published a long message by the pontiff, in which he is a sharp critic of the US and Israel’s military operation in Iran. Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has said that Donald Trump’s statements are “unacceptable”. Meloni, who is Catholic and heads a right-wing coalition government, is a close ally of Trump. Pope Leo said he has “no fear” of the Trump administration. There are over 70 million Catholics in the US, many of whom are voters.
