Two earthquakes shake northern and southern California in one day

Two earthquakes occurred in northern and southern California on Tuesday, April 28, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS).

The first quake struck four miles south of the Redlands area on April 28, around 1:11 p.m. The quake had a magnitude of 2.6 (originally reported as 2.8) and a depth of three miles.

The second quake occurred in the Sacramento area, two miles west-southwest of Granite Bay in Placer County around 6:35 p.m. It was reported to have a magnitude of 2.8 and a depth of 2.49 miles.

The USGS has a “Did you feel it?” A form where residents who live near earthquakes can answer questions about their experiences.

As of April 29, 69 local Redlands residents have submitted responses. So far, respondents have reported feeling weak to mild “shivering.”

Additionally, some residents in Riverside, about 14 miles from Redlands, and San Bernardino, about seven miles from Redlands, reported feeling the quake.

Hundreds of people filled out the form corresponding to the Granite Bay earthquake. As of April 29, 771 people near the area have reported their experiences.

The requests were largely focused on people residing in Lincoln, 11.27 miles northwest of Granite Bay, along with Roseville and Citrus Heights, which are 9 miles and 11 miles, respectively, from Granite Bay.

Similar to the people in Redlands, they were reporting experiencing weak to mild “shaking.”

Earthquakes this week

Tuesday’s quakes are not the first to occur in California this week.

On Sunday, April 26, at least four earthquakes shook the state.

The strongest earthquake, a magnitude 3.4, occurred at 8:44 a.m. six miles northeast of Cabazon, and was approximately eight miles deep.

The effects of the earthquake were not only felt nearby.

According to the USGS report “Did You Feel It?”, people living in South Pasadena, about 80 miles from the epicenter, felt the shaking.

People staying in Escondido, about 65 miles from the center, also felt the shaking.

On Sunday, California also experienced a roughly eight-mile-deep, 1.9-magnitude earthquake six miles northwest of Cabazon.

Additionally, the area was affected by a 2.6 magnitude earthquake 26 miles west-northwest of Trinidad in Humboldt County. This was combined with a 2.3 magnitude earthquake about 10 miles north of Borrego Springs.

Borrego Springs is located in the San Diego County area.
