An earthquake on Mother’s Day weekend rocks High Desert, San Bernardino

A series of earthquakes, including a 3.4-magnitude quake near the San Bernardino and San Andreas fault, shook homes and set off car alarms in the High Desert and Inland Empire on Mother’s Day weekend.

The quake occurred at 11:32 p.m. on Friday, May 8, and was centered one mile southeast of Moscow, according to the US Geological Survey.

The quake was reported west of the Interstate 15 and Interstate 215 interchange, and south of the San Andreas Fault.

According to social media, the quake was felt in parts of San Bernardino and Riverside counties.

“I was working in my office when it felt like a car crashed into my house,” Billy Carr of Hesperia told the Daily Press. “The walls and windows of my house shook, and my dogs started barking.”

“It was a strong jolt,” said Melissa Smith of Apple Valley, who was brushing her teeth when she felt the quake. “It was fast and strong.”

The earthquake on Friday night was the third of the day.

Two 3.4 magnitude earthquakes occurred 4 miles southwest of Redlands, one at 6:40 p.m. and one earlier at 5:53 a.m.

At 9:37 a.m. on May 7, a magnitude 3.1 earthquake occurred 22 miles southwest of Fort Irwin.

At 9:45 a.m. on May 6, a magnitude 3.3 earthquake occurred 4 miles southwest of Redlands.

There were no reports of injuries or damage.
