There has been an exchange of fire between Iranian and US forces in the Strait of Hormuz, and three US destroyers have been deployed in that area. Iran has accused the US of violating the ceasefire between the two countries. Iran says US forces have attacked an Iranian oil tanker and retaliated, saying it caused “extensive damage” to US vessels as they fled the Strait of Hormuz. The U.S. military’s Central Command said Iranian forces fired “multiple missiles, drones and small boats” at three U.S. ships as they passed by. He said no US “assets” were captured and that his forces intercepted the attacks and responded with what he called “self-defense strikes”. The US military said it was not seeking an escalation but remained “positioned and ready to protect American forces”.
