A 2.4 magnitude earthquake hits South Carolina
At 644, just in time for the news, we take a look at the top stories of the day. Your traffic and weather, all before you head out the door with Isabel Mark, who joins us live in downtown Greenville to tell us about the Year of the Artist, which begins today. Yes. Hi, Erin. And we have a lot of excitement happening this weekend. You may know someone who might know more about this. The CEO holds the artist’s gallery. Okay, let’s talk about last-minute reminders for people who are excited to get out this weekend. So the Church Street Bridge was closed. So make sure you know the detour and don’t bring your pets. Please leave these at home, but bring your own sunscreen. It’s going to be a beautiful weekend. Yes. What’s new this year? I know there are new additions. Yes. So, in PRISMA HEALTH’s 22nd Annual Year of Artists, we have 47 brand new faces in our artist lineup, the most new artists we’ve ever had in any single year. So we’re very excited about that. We love seeing our old friends back, but it’s nice to also have some new artists lined up. There are lots of engaging activities and new demonstrations on the streets, so there are opportunities for people to try their hand at the creative process and see demonstrations, pull back the curtain and see how everything is made, and then lots of opportunities for children to make crafts for Mum for Mother’s Day. I know you guys have been doing this for some time now. You know, over 20 years. What is your favorite part or what are you most looking forward to this year? I love to see everyone coming out and having a good time. I mean, Grenfellians go out and buy art and celebrate. I mean, you know, we have an amazing, very vibrant cultural scene here in Greenville. So many amazing cultural amenities. And so, you know, people celebrate the things they love and appreciate. And this community really cherishes their cultural origins here. So seeing everyone here enjoying and celebrating the arts is what it’s all about. There is a lot of talent. I know a lot of artists who have been applied. What happens when you select some of these artists that are in Artist Row? So we get a different panel of jurors every year. Professionals, who are either working artists, gallery owners, museum curators, or art educators, handle approximately 1,100 applications submitted by artists through four images of their work and a photo of their booth, and applied across their various categories. So there are 17 different categories. Then we get the highest scores in all 17 categories. So, you have a good balance of media here. amazing. This is really cool. Thank you so much Carrie. Thank you for being with us this morning and enjoy the rest of the weekend as well. It’s going to be a fun time. As a quick reminder, the day will start at noon. We will be working all weekend and Sunday night. But for now, Isabel Mark WYFF NEWS FOUR is reporting live in downtown Greenville. Isabelle. Thank you for your commitment to covering 2026 this morning. We’re less than a month away from the June primary in South Carolina, and the first day to register to vote is today. If you want to register to vote in person, the deadline is today. While Sunday is the deadline to register online, by fax, or by email, and Monday is the deadline to register by mail, the letter must be postmarked by the 11th. Early voting begins May 26, and primary election day is Tuesday, June 9. Mayor Bilal says she will leave office this summer, just months after being re-elected. She announced that she would not run for another term and would resign at the end of June. She says she is stepping down to spend more time with her family and to make room for new leadership. Mayor Lyles was first elected in 2017 and has served in city government for more than 30 years. The South Carolina Republican Party says it has been officially decertified. Jacqueline Hicks DuBose, as a gubernatorial candidate, the party says her registration fee was refunded due to insufficient funds and was not later resolved. The state Republican Party says her name will still appear on the ballot, but votes will not be officially counted Sunday. For the record, we’re speaking with three of South Carolina’s gubernatorial candidates. We’ve invited each candidate to join us for an in-person interview, and on Sunday, we’ll introduce you to three Republicans running for governor. These three are Lieutenant Governor Pamela Abbott, State Senator Josh Kimbrel, and Congresswoman Nancy Mace. Then, the following week, we’ll bring you interviews with three more Republican candidates. REMINDER, YOU CAN FIND LAST WEEK’S EPISODE FEATURED THE DEMOCRATIC CANDIDATES ON WYFF 4 DOT COM. And again, as a reminder, elementary school in South Carolina is starting soon. June 9th, joining us Sunday morning at 1130, here at WYFF in Greenville, says community leader Phil Harris has passed away. Harris was president of the Syrian Neighborhood Association for nearly 30 years, and the city says she died last week at age 79. South Carolina State University has announced speakers for tomorrow’s commencement ceremony, which comes after students protested last week when Lieutenant Governor Pamela Abbott was rumored to be giving the speech. South Carolina says National University Alumni Association President Yolanda Williams and Student Government Association President Zaria Tucker will be keynote speakers. Williams works as a senior analytics consultant at Wells Fargo in Charlotte, and earned her degree from NC State in mathematics with a minor in computer science in 1995. Tucker is a senior majoring in psychology from Clinton and Will serves as the student spokesperson. The ceremony will begin at 10 a.m. with University President Alexander Conyers officiating. Anderson County is scheduled to open today. County staff is opening Piedmont Riverfront Park, a 21-acre destination along the Saluda River. The park features ADA canoeing access as well as fishing, protected wetlands, and some opportunities for wildlife viewing. The park has been in existence since 2010. Victoria. It’s a beautiful start today, especially over Lake Hartwell. Look at the sunrise there and the multiple boats setting off early for the day. Maybe fishing. We will see temperatures into the 50s this morning, but we will quickly warm up later this afternoon and maintain mostly clear skies. Are there any plans for the weekend or today? Entertainers going for graduation or any early Mother’s Day plans will remain in the low 70s today and low 70s in Western North Carolina. We stay dry tonight, dry for most of the weekend. Once again, we see a cold front moving towards our south. This could trickle down to one or two light showers, heading into Saturday. It looks like Saturday although it is mainly dry throughout the afternoon. This is good news. Clouds move in and out over that cold front as it heads south. As we head into Mother’s Day Sunday, if you’re going to an early service or brunch at church, the morning hours will be dry. Then we reach peak heating hour during the day at around 4:00, two from 2 to 4:00. We are starting to see a boundary developing, and this boundary could bring a few showers or thunderstorms. It is very isolated. It’s only a 30% chance of rain. We then leave for the rest of Sunday until a cold front moves in. Coming from west to east. This will provide us with our next chance for some rain over the next couple of days. Then by Monday, we start to see those temperatures in the 70s and back into the low 70s on Tuesday. So I’ll walk you through more details on both. Four more days here in a few minutes. Leah. Thank you, Victoria. Happy Friday. There’s a lot going on this week, which means a lot happening on our roads. We’ll be checking out some really important closures. You’ll want to know if you’re traveling in downtown Greenville here in just a second, sir. First, take a straight look along I-85. Those northbound lanes are starting to pick up a little bit of those maps, and you’re definitely seeing that reflected between Spartanburg and Greenville. This is typical. This is the typical traffic in the Pelham parking lot and it is right there that it earns its name. But hey, let’s talk about downtown Greenville. Look at all that color. Normally, we are used to green color today. We get all types of closures. This is the Church Street Bridge closure. This one. We’re already looking forward to the artists coming to downtown Greenville today. All during Sunday, South Main Street and Broad Street. I want you to lock them both up. It will take a little longer to get around downtown this weekend. This is just a matter of fact. So give yourself time when you’re walking out the door, maybe an extra 15 10 minutes just to make sure you get where you want to go when you need to be there 28 or 26, sorry. 385 Looking Good in Green, 85.
