US and Iranian negotiators have reached an agreement to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, extend the current ceasefire and begin negotiations on Iran’s nuclear program. It is understood that they have agreed to continue the current ceasefire for another 60 days. Under the terms of the deal, the Strait of Hormuz would be reopened to shipping, returning it to the status quo before the US and Israel launched the latest military action against Iran. Donald Trump is yet to endorse the deal, amid increasing exchange of fire between the two sides amid concerns that the existing ceasefire agreement could collapse. The new agreement would not be a peace agreement, but could be a platform for serious peace talks. In Lebanon, Israel has stepped up attacks against what it describes as Hezbollah targets. Israel has designated large areas of Lebanon as combat zones and called on all civilians to leave. Israel is dealing with a new type of attack by drones guided by fiber optic cables.
