The death toll from the Mindanao earthquake has risen to 47 people

MANILA, Philippines – The number of deaths reported due to the 7.8-magnitude earthquake that shook southern Mindanao on Monday rose from 45 to 47, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC).

The NDRRMC’s report on the earthquake’s aftermath, as of 8 a.m. on June 11, showed that 35 of the reported deaths were in Sokskargin district and 12 from Davao region.

“These numbers are being validated and verified by the Mass Casualty Group led by the Ministry of Interior and Local Government,” the Deputy Assistant Director of the Civil Defense Office. second. Ravi Alejandro said in Filipino in an interview on DZRH Thursday morning.

Meanwhile, 688 people have been reported injured so far, while 31 others are still missing, according to the National Research and Rescue Committee.

The earthquake affected 75,324 families in 291 barangays in the Zamboanga Peninsula, Davao Region and Soksargen and Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.

Meanwhile, 12,641 homes were reported to have been damaged during the quake, of which 2,289 were reported as “completely damaged,” the center said.

He also explained that the estimated damage to infrastructure so far amounts to P666.5 million.

“The infrastructure audit is ongoing to ensure that the structures still standing are safe to return to,” Alejandro noted. “We are still collecting damaged structures.”
