PLN fully restores the power grid in Central Sulawesi after a 6.7 magnitude earthquake

PALU (ANTARAG) – State utility company PT PLN has fully restored electricity services in Central Sulawesi following a 6.7-magnitude earthquake, reconnecting 68,459 customers affected by power outages, the company said on Sunday.

“The rapid restoration of the power grid was successfully completed through the cooperation of all field teams,” Eko Brihandana, PLN Sulmapana’s vice president of distribution monitoring, said in a statement.

The restored infrastructure includes three feeders, 15 network sections, 651 substations and service connections for 68,459 customers affected by the earthquake.

Power outages were reported in five areas: Palu City, Donggala District, Barigi Motaung District, Sigi District and Bosso District.

Brihandana said customer service operations in Palu, Kamungi, Twili, Donggala, Tambo and Parigi were also disrupted during the disaster.

He said PLN remains committed to maintaining reliable electricity supply throughout the emergency response period.

The company deployed field employees to monitor the affected areas and ensure that residents continue to have access to electricity, which is considered an essential service.

“We remain prepared and will continue to support communities until conditions fully recover,” Echo said.

In addition to restoring electricity, PLN provided humanitarian aid to earthquake victims in Sigi, one of the worst-hit areas.

Aid was distributed through emergency shelters and health facilities, including centers in Nokilalaki and Palolo as well as local community health centres.

He added that the supplies include bottled water, rice, canned fish, medicines, clean water tanks and emergency lighting equipment.

According to the Siji Disaster Mitigation Agency, 2,335 homes were damaged as of June 20, of which 1,955 had minor damage, 226 had moderate damage and 154 had severe damage.

The earthquake affected 8,586 people from 2,775 families, resulting in 17 seriously injured, 108 lightly injured and three dead.
