Acting President Delcy Rodriguez said the worst damage recorded so far was in the capital, Caracas, about 100 miles east of the epicenter, and along the northern coast. “We send our immediate condolences to those who lost their relatives,” she said.

The coastal area surrounding the capital’s airport, about a 45-minute drive northeast of the city, is also where Donald Trump’s attack on the country began on January 3, when US helicopters led a raid to kidnap President Nicolas Maduro.

Rodriguez said that the airport itself was subjected to severe vibrations due to the earthquake, as parts of the ceiling collapsed on fleeing passengers, and the authorities closed it immediately after it suffered “severe damage.” The metro and train systems also stopped. Rodriguez said authorities were transporting rescue teams from other parts of the country to La Guaira.

The coastal city of Catia la Mar is located just west of La Guaira, where reports indicated the collapse of a dozen or more large buildings, including seafront hotels and residential units. The Playa Grande neighborhood was particularly hard hit.

A Guardian reporter saw at least three buildings collapse in Altamira. Some people were reportedly trapped under the rubble. Outside one of the buildings, a person was seen crying and calling for his grandmother, who he feared was inside. Nearby, rescue workers and volunteers searched for survivors.

Almost all insurance providers, no matter if they are well-known brands or just local insurers, have an online presence. Accurate insurance estimates. Online quotes can only be accurate if the customers provide accurate and real info about their car models and driving history.
