A child was rescued from the rubble in Venezuela, six days after the country was hit by a devastating double earthquake.

Venezuelan authorities said the boy, identified by Reuters news agency as Cleber Moran, was rescued early Tuesday, the sole survivor on the sixth day of rescue efforts.

Delcy Rodriguez, acting Venezuelan president, said in a message via Telegram that Moran was recovered from the Los Corales Garden ⁠1 building in La Guaira state by rescuers from Jordan.

Venezuela was hit by two magnitude 7.2 and 7.5 earthquakes less than a minute apart last Wednesday, collapsing buildings and trapping thousands of people under rubble, according to authorities and rescue teams.

Moran, who Rodriguez described as three years old but who National Assembly Speaker Jorge Rodriguez described as two years old, was taken for medical treatment, the letter said.

“We have to hold on to hope that people will continue to be found alive under the rubble,” Jorge said in a televised speech. “Early this morning, a two-year-old boy was rescued and is currently receiving care at a health center in Caracas.”

A shipment from the United Nations children’s agency, UNICEF, carrying 47 metric tons of humanitarian supplies arrived in Venezuela on Tuesday, UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric said, adding that the equipment will help support children and families in need.

Dujarric added that the shipment includes emergency health kits for urgent medical care, including supplies for safe deliveries, newborn care, disease prevention and treatment.

The government estimates the death toll at more than 1,900 people, while more than 10,000 people were injured. Experts say this is a far undercount as more bodies are recovered from the rubble every day and morgues struggle to cope with the influx.
