Compare the suburb of Sheffield to the “aftermath of an earthquake” where gangs, flies and loud music cause residents to be nervous
Nassar Raouf, vice president of the Firth Park Neighborhood Network, has called on the South Yorkshire Police for more powers to fine people there for persistent anti-social behavior and street fights.
Over the past few months, there have been countless reports of street fights and large groups of people gathering and ignoring social distancing guidelines in the area.
Raouf said that drug trafficking, gang activity, flies-licking, anti-social behavior, and quarrels are all things that plague Big Hole and give residents sleepless nights.

“Words cannot express how bad it really is,” he added.
“It’s like the aftermath of an earthquake when you see the scenes in other countries and you see everything broken and people depend on others.
“People live sleepless nights because they worry about how things will improve.
“There is loud music playing until two or three in the morning.
Groups of men were photographed arguing with each other with their golf clubs on Wildrake Road on Thursday August 20.
“You have anti-social behavior, people hang out on street corners until the wee hours of the morning.
“There are huge quarrels that happen on a daily basis and they cause pain and discomfort to the population.
“Gangs are going around and intimidating people.”
While South Yorkshire Police have introduced a beefed-up police plan and beefed up patrols in the area, after footage of groups of men fighting with each other at golf clubs on Thursday, August 20, Mr. Raouf said residents are not comfortable reporting crimes due to intimidation.
Nassar Raouf is Vice President of Firth Park Neighborhood Network.
He continued: “If someone has a problem with the way a certain family behaves and informs them of their complaints, they will find 15 or 20 people appear outside their home.”
“Our members do not trust the police and the council right now.
“They don’t want to talk to people because we haven’t dealt with this problem in nearly 10 or 12 years now.
“We haven’t reached rock bottom yet. It’s getting worse day by day.”
Council street guards patrol the streets of Big Hole seven days a week and noise equipment was confiscated from a home in the area last week, after an arrest warrant was found to be causing excessive noise.
Mr. Raouf claimed that one of the residents had suicidal tendencies because excessive noise and trash were flying outside her home every day.
He said, “It always talks about no one to talk to, no one listening to.”
“These people are screaming until 4 or 5 in the morning and every time she puts her head on the pillow, she describes it as feeling like someone is dragging her head through the broken glass.
“I think it comes down to the fact that we live in the BAME area (blacks, Asians, ethnic minorities) and that the majority of us are from BAME backgrounds.”
The Vice President fears that community problems will escalate in Page Hall due to insufficient resources being used.
He said, “If this is an area called Dore or Totley or Ecclesall, we will not have these problems, we will have advisors in it and the authorities do something about it to get the case under control.
“It has been a problem for 10 years and we feel we have been left high and dry because these organizations are not providing us with adequate resources and we are from different regions.”
Streets Ahead and Veolia made additional visits to remove waste and garbage left over in the streets, according to the council.
Counselor Paul Wood, Cabinet Member for Neighborhood and Community Safety, said: “Over recent years, we have worked diligently with Big Hole residents, community groups and our partners to bring cohesion and a strong sense of community to the area.
“Through our engagement work, including the community workshops that were attended by a large number of people and held in July, and the presence of our street guards, we have made a lot of progress that has been recognized within the community.
“This helped us agree on some initial plans for upcoming development work, which includes aligning our services so that we can provide a coordinated response to support the broader improvement of the area.
“We know that tensions have risen recently and that some isolated incidents have caused residents to worry.
“We understand that some of these issues are old, but we must also acknowledge the stress that Covid-19 has caused on all of us, how it has affected people individually and how it has affected some of our local areas.
“We have committed an unprecedented level of resources and support at Page Hall and continue to use a multi-agency approach to address any issues affecting the people who live in the area.
“We welcome their input and input in identifying solutions and building on the progress made, to ensure Page Hall is a thriving and unified society.”
A South Yorkshire Police spokesperson commented: “The government recommends that when socializing with those outside their homes, people should observe social distancing of at least two meters.
“This recommendation is a guideline and is not enforceable as law.
“ However, our officers will always advise people to adhere to social distancing and other related directives in order to prevent the spread of Covid-19 and keep people safe.
Our officers are spread across the city on a daily basis to respond to reports of unrest and battles in public places.
“When appropriate and necessary, enforcement measures will be taken to protect the public.”

View photos The advantages of comparing online car insurance quotes are the following: Online quotes can be obtained from anywhere and at any time. Unlike physical insurance agencies, websites don't have a specific schedule and they are available at any time. Drivers that have busy working schedules, can compare quotes from anywhere and at any time, even at midnight. Multiple choices. Almost all insurance providers, no matter if they are well-known brands or just local insurers, have an online presence. Online quotes will allow policyholders the chance to discover multiple insurance companies and check their prices. Drivers are no longer required to get quotes from just a few known insurance companies. Also, local and regional insurers can provide lower insurance rates for the same services. Accurate insurance estimates. Online quotes can only be accurate if the customers provide accurate and real info about their car models and driving history. Lying about past driving incidents can make the price estimates to be lower, but when dealing with an insurance company lying to them is useless. Usually, insurance companies will do research about a potential customer before granting him coverage. Online quotes can be sorted easily.
