A video clip showing the demolition explosion in the “earthquake” quarry

This explosive video clip shows demolition work at Croft Quarry in the south of the county.

The demolition work took place in the quarry during the past weeks, and some of the work caused concern to residents after huge explosions were heard by residents.

One of the eruptions in particular on August 19 was so loud that residents believed there was an earthquake in a quarry near Huncut.

The explosion was heard as far away as Thorpe Astley and Leicester Forest East.

Since that explosion, the company running the quarry, Aggregate Industries, has apologized for the concern and sent letters to residents and local leaders informing them of the date of the next explosion.

The last explosion occurred yesterday (3 September), which is featured in the video taken by Kay Burgin.

Aggregate Industries reported it to residents earlier this week, advising them it was a blast to demolish an abandoned building.

Yesterday’s explosion was originally scheduled two weeks ago, but was postponed due to weather conditions.

The letter from Area Operations Director Adrian Robinson reads: “In addition to our recent call, I am writing to inform you that the controlled explosion scheduled for Croft Quarry for the week beginning on August 24th, to demolish an abandoned building, has been postponed due to weather conditions.

“This will now take place on Thursday, September 3rd.”

The letter also informed residents that more demolitions will be carried out next week.

And she continued: “Another explosion was originally scheduled for the week beginning on August 31, and is now scheduled to occur the following week (September 7) at a site below the quarry.

“In the wake of the disruptions caused by a previous explosion of some residents within the local area, we have put in place a larger and more flexible time frame to do these actions when the weather conditions are favorable.

“We always aim to be a conscientious neighbor, and we thank you for your understanding of why dates have changed.”
