Earthquake near Nashik city in Maharashtra, a magnitude 4.0 earthquake was felt, NCS says

Mumbai, September 5: An earthquake of moderate intensity was reported in western Maharashtra late Friday. The tremors broke out, according to the National Center of Seismology (NCS), in the direction west of Nashik, located about 180 km from the state capital Mumbai. No damages were sustained until the time the initial reports appeared. Maharashtra earthquake: A magnitude 2.8 earthquake strikes near Mumbai.

According to the seismic authority, residents felt the earthquake for a few seconds at 11:41 pm. The quake struck 98 km west of Nashik.

“An earthquake measuring 4.0 on the Richter scale occurred 98 km west of Nashik, Maharashtra state at 11:41 pm on September 4th,” a statement issued by the NCS said.

The earthquake was reported hours after low-intensity tremors were reported near Mumbai. The earthquake was reported 91 km north of Mumbai, and the tremors were measured on the Richter scale of 2.8 on the Richter scale. No loss of life or property was reported.
