The forgotten Kabuki manuscript gives evidence of the 1855 earthquake in Japan. Scientists collect data about earthquakes and volcanoes from historical documents. By analyzing the original handwritten autobiography describing the actor’s experience of the 1855 Anse-Edo earthquake, a multidisciplinary team at the University of Tokyo determined that the depth of the earthquake was about 20 kilometers, which is less shallow than other researchers’ estimates. The authors say an important part of ensuring safe field conditions for LGBTQ + people is being aware of the extent of the problem. Need a breath of fresh air during your daily screen time? I found myself drifting into the relatively green, pristine forest lands southeast of Paris while reading about the effort to create France’s newest national park and the philosophy behind it. I clearly got wild and traveled in my mind this week, as my list of the ten least visited parks in the US National Park System also caught my attention. (Isle Royale in particular has long been on my to-do list.)
