Orion CEO steps down after nine years in office

The CEO of Christchurch Grand Lines has resigned.

Rob Jamison’s resignation from Orion was confirmed on Monday. He has been with Orion for 26 years and has been CEO for the past nine years.

Jamieson said this is the ideal time to “turn the reins” after completing a recent review of the company’s strategy.

He became president of the company after the Canterbury earthquakes, succeeding Roger Sutton, who was appointed CEO of the Canterbury Earthquake Restoration Authority.

In 2014, Jamison told Stuff that he raised his hand for the role in part due to a sense of responsibility and duty.

Orion boss Jane Taylor said Jamieson provides stability when it’s most needed.

Rob intervened and led the rebuilding of the earthquake-damaged electrical grid in addition to meeting the evolving energy needs of Christchurch and the Selwyn area. “This is a challenging and unique task that requires years of intense work,” she said in a statement.

“He should be proud of integrating improved architecture and resilience into our network while also keeping a record of reliable power supplies to our community. This has been achieved in the face of many natural events that have presented unique challenges to the network and employees.”

Orion is 89.3 percent owned by Christchurch City Holdings Limited, the investment arm of Christchurch City Council.

It provides electricity infrastructure to 195,000 homes and businesses.

A company statement stated that Orion’s board of directors will begin searching for a new CEO soon.
