Let’s try an experiment. Let’s go back in time to 1820 and see the chaos of 2020 in America through the eyes of someone from that era. What will he or she from our current unfortunate situation do? Forest fires raging? Devastating winds and hurricanes? Blood and chaos on the streets? Our republic is teetering on the brink of collapse? Even more frightening is a mighty epidemic that is ravaging the earth and killing thousands of people.

Most people only had one book in their main library at the time, if they had any at all. Even those who were illiterate, like many others, knew at least parts of what was stated in the Bible. They knew more about it than the average American Christian knows today. We might be confused, but they weren’t. This is clearly God’s wrath at work. The great earthquake of 1811-12 was still fresh on their minds. Earthquake that devastated parts of Missouri, Arkansas, Tennessee and Kentucky and led to religious revivals. There would have been a great debate about why God’s wrath fell on America. Some might argue that Americans have been rejecting God or violating God’s plan for humanity, which is perfect and holy. Others may have said that people were ignoring God in their pursuit of earthly wealth and pleasure. Those who returned to the fold after the Great Earthquake were so numerous that they earned the nickname Earthquake Christians. All good Christians would have agreed that God has every right to punish us for our transgressions.

But some may have taken a different path. Perhaps the most knowledgeable of the Bible would have asserted that there was a false Christ at liberty in America and that he and his followers were bringing the nation to ruin and devastation. Certainly nothing released God’s wrath faster than the presence of an antichrist to replace Jesus Christ and announce his arrival as the second coming. The Bible is full of warnings about the danger of these men with helpful hints on how to spot them. These men are called the “Antichrist” if they pose a major threat to God’s plan or the Antichrist if they are a little less dangerous. The difference was apparently that they were really expected to portray themselves as Jesus, and were just impostors hoping to gain wealth and political power.

In terms of learning about Antichrist, there is almost a lot of help available. There are lists for anywhere from six to 29 traits of the Antichrist. Given that I think about Donald Trump, I use “ a man very ignorant of Christianity to fight the antichrist. ” I think you must know something about God and His plan in order to intentionally seek to challenge Him. No, for Trump, his conversion to Christianity and the knot of Christ is just another hoax. I will limit my identifiers to those that apply to it most closely.

The Antichrist is out of the law. Trump is not only outlaw but has surrounded himself with outlaw followers.

The Antichrist is the deceiver. “He will come with false signs, wonders and miracles.” Chlorine injection as a treatment for Corona virus? Is that “miracle” enough for you?

It is political. “He will preside over a kingdom with deception that will replace destruction, and fraud will give way to power, and the wolf in sheep’s clothing will get rid of wool and expose its tusks.” Immediately as the elections approached, the wool was already stopped and the fangs exposed.

He is a charismatic leader who stirs large crowds and persuades many to become a fanatical follower.

He is arrogant. It would have a huge ego. The world will demand to worship him.

He is ruthless. It would not be good for others. He only cares about himself.

He is an infidel womanizer. “He does not care about the God of his fathers or the lust of women, nor does he care about any deity!

Finally, it is devastating. “He will destroy those who oppose him and he will forever destroy everyone who believes in him and who follows him.” Take note, MAGAs. Once your hero Trump destroys his counterpart and enemies, he will also destroy you forever.

This is what Americans in 1820 thought about our current situation and the leader who dropped it on our heads. But, of course, what did they know at the time, let alone 2,000 years before that? We have cell phones, the internet, Facebook, and all kinds of amusing bells and whistles. We have all the information in the world at our fingertips … and all the lies and misinformation too. All the information in the world but not half the wisdom they had at the time.

They knew their world after that. Sure, it was a simpler world technologically, but not the simplest in terms of human behavior. They were well connected to the reality of their world. The same technology that serves us well in some ways also allows us to live in alternate cocoons of our imaginations … or perhaps the artificial imagination of someone they were calling the Antichrist. In a false world where there is no such thing as science. And if there is no science, if the link between cause and effect is severed, then God’s wrath is a better explanation for what is happening in America today than the lies that are accumulating from the mouths of Donald Trump and his agents.
