LAFC enters into auspicious match with earthquakes | Sports

The Los Angeles FC team hopes their recent dominant win will finally give them some elusive momentum on Sunday as they host struggling San Jose Earthquakes.

LAFC (5-5-3, 18 points) records a landslide 6-0 home win over Vancouver Whitecaps. Bradley Wright Phillips scored twice, while Diego Rossi added, his eleventh goal in the league this season.

Wright Phillips was named NBA Best Player, the twelfth time he had this honor in his career.

Although the win helped offset the 3-0 loss to Seattle Sounders last weekend, LAFC has shown a sharp contrast recently. Before losing to the Saunders, he defeated Portland Timbers 4-2, but that came after losing 3–0 to Real Salt Lake (September 9) and the Los Angeles Galaxy (September 6).

“We weren’t as clever as we could be,” said Bob Bradley, coach of LAFC. “We have seen long periods of time in every match when we feel good, but there are moments when we hurt ourselves. We just have to be more consistent, regain confidence and try to improve in all areas.”

As the LAFC match was impressive on Wednesday, the earthquakes (2-6-5, 11 points) were just the opposite. San Jose fell 5-0 on the road to Colorado Rapids, four days after being crushed 6-1 by the Portland Timbers. Given that they had only abandoned one goal in the previous two games, this 11-1 crash made the earthquakes reel.

San Jose ranks last in the Western Conference and tied with the lowest score in the league. And now Quakes meet a team that was defeated 5-1 on September 2 in Los Angeles

“I think we need to make sure we do the little things, make sure we get away from the ball, make sure we keep it up, make sure we hook up with our passes, make sure the pitch is expanded, as well as open up spaces for your teammates,” said veteran earthquake striker Chris Wondolowski. “I think at the moment we’re very individualistic and not doing our job defensively – or tactically either. It’s clearly hurting us and hurting us badly.”

LAFC 5-0-0 against Earthquakes in MLS regular season matches and 6-0-0 in all competitions. LAFC outperformed San Jose 23-5 in those six meetings.
