Nagorno-Karabakh conflict: major cities continue to be hit by major fighting – BBC News

Azerbaijan, Ganja, is the second largest city destroyed by the Armenians, as major clashes continue over the Nagorno-Karabakh enclave. The enclave is officially located in Azerbaijan but is run by Armenian ethnic groups. Its self-proclaimed authorities say it attacked the military airport in Ganga after Azerbaijani forces bombed the regional capital Stepanakert. Azerbaijan says no Ganja military site has been hit. More than 220 people have been killed since the clashes began a week ago. Armenia and Azerbaijan went to war in Nagorno-Karabakh in 1988-94, eventually declaring a ceasefire. However, they have never reached an agreement on the conflict. The current fighting is the worst since the ceasefire and the former Soviet republics are blaming each other.
