April Fools ‘Coronavirus Crazy Day’ rounds riles NYPD
April in April promised 12-hour shifts in the face of coronaviruses that broke through the NYPD rankings on Wednesday – but many police officers said the coronavirus crisis was not just a funny thing.
“This is such a serious pandemic, and to joke when people get seriously ill and police officers are on the verge is wrong,” said Sgt. Joe Imperatrice, founder of Blue Lives Matter NYC.

The trick was sent as the city’s “Finest Message” telling officers since April 8 that all officers, sergeants, detectives and lieutenants would move into a 12-hour shift.
The sequence seemed real – except for the last few words of the last paragraph, which read: “The chart layout acts on a Travian male – on a fool’s day.”
“Cops have nothing better to do than scare other cops,” one police source complained.
Another wrote: “NYPD is best for spreading rumors.”
It was not clear where the message came from.
The department said it could go on 12-hour tours if enough sick people get sick, but that has not yet become official.
The message was certified over time, just over an hour Police Commissioner Dermot Shea told CNN the department was not yet at that point.
“There’s more behind the 12-hour tour. People are worried about illness, kindergarten,” Imperatrice said.
“Don’t joke about it. Something like where it really looks real,” he said, adding that some would not notice the doll.
The NYPD did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
