We have another disturbance driving showers during this morning with relatively light westerly winds, afternoon high near 61. There will still be a slight chance of afternoon rain though this will decrease by tonight as the weak high pressure starts to build up giving us Skies partly cloudy with a drop near 43.

The high pressure continues tomorrow, so look for a fair, mild day with sunny skies, altitude near 63, another clear night that will allow temperatures to drop to the dew point so expect patchy fog late after the winds have passed.

The models are mixed for Friday, some of them keep the high pressure that will keep us dry. Other models show a weak front moving during the Friday, so we have little chance of light rain starting in the afternoon and continuing into Friday night. The threat increases as you turn north.

Then, on the weekends, the uncertainty increases, although we have high pressure westward, models suggest that one or two systems could ride over the hills and descend through the area giving us a slight chance of a shower. The first threat is Saturday night through Sunday morning, then another night from Monday to Tuesday morning. Weekend highs in the low 1960s, and lows in the mid-40s.

Earthquake safety is easy to forget in a global pandemic and the wildfire recovery continues; However, Oregon remains an earthquake zone. The Great Tremor, the annual earthquake preparedness drill, takes place at 10:15 a.m. on October 15th. The Oregon Office of Emergency Management works with local communities to share information about what to expect and how to prepare before, during and after an earthquake. This includes encouraging all Oregonians to participate in Great Shakeout, a time when everyone can practice “fall, cover and hold” – the first safety measure to take during any type of earthquake.

“This year, with many working home and students attending classes online, it’s a great opportunity to discuss earthquake safety and conduct earthquake drills at home with your family,” said Andrew Phelps, OEM Director.

Other earthquake safety tips include connecting to your home’s water heater and identifying gas and water lines in your home to quickly shut them off if needed. When meeting your family, wander around your house to spot the heavy things on the high shelves that could fall off; Move these items to the lower shelves and make sure heavy furniture items are prepared for safety. Also discuss the best place to meet if you are separated during the event and plan to socialize with loved ones. Determine the best location for your prepping items and make sure everyone in the home knows where they are.

“After a large-scale event, such as the Cascadia earthquake, it may take some time for the resources for an official response to be available,” Phelps said. “This is why it is so important that you make plans with your family and neighbors to be prepared for at least two weeks.”

Burn Ban County ended on October 10

The Tillamook County Fire Defense Board, in conjunction with the Oregon Forestry Department, will allow the burning of burning drums and the burning of exposed piles of debris on October 10, 2020 at 0100. This has changed from the revised date of October 15 with the wet weather system approaching the area this weekend.

In Tillamuk County, for the general public, burning permits are required. For residents who live within a city fire department or a rural fire protection zone, they will need to contact the local fire department to obtain burn permit requirements. In the remainder of Tillamook County, the Oregon Forest Service issues burning permits.

There is no charge for a burn permit, but an on-site inspection is performed with the land owner before the permit is issued. Information about burn permits and how to obtain a permit for the Tillamook District is available by calling the Oregon Department of Forestry at 503-815-7056 (24-hour line), or you can call your local fire department.

The public is reminded to practice safe burning throughout the year. When burning, please keep the following in mind:
