The child, initially sitting in the passenger seat, crawled in the van while his grandfather was driving and accidentally hit a broken lock as the vehicle accelerated from an intersection, according to government-owned Wujiang Daily.

“I was waiting for the red light. After passing the intersection, a car chased me and I continued to hit the branch,” Yang told CCTV. “The driver told me a child had fallen from my van. I looked back, parked the van and went to look for my grandson.”

Yang ran back to the intersection, and the grandfather and grandson joined the pedestrians to help.
