The updated dashboard supports various HIV testing services
The World Health Organization (WHO), in coordination with UNAIDS, has updated the dashboard of HIV testing services with new data for 2020, ahead of this year’s World AIDS Day.
The interactive dashboard provides users with a wide range of information on HIV testing from countries around the world about, for example, HIV prevalence, the number of people who are positive for HIV, and the number of people testing for HIV for the first time or repeating a test. Data are given in tables and tables, and vary according to age, gender, and other characteristics.
“It is crucial to have differentiated data on HIV testing at this stage of the epidemic,” said Cheryl Johnson, WHO technical officer. “Having such data will help programs implement World Health Organization guidelines so they can reach the remaining people living with HIV who do not know their status. We look forward to working with countries on how they can use their data to guide effective and efficient HIV testing services. ”
Countries need to have a range of testing approaches to reach people living with HIV who do not know their status and others who are at risk of acquiring HIV. The dashboard will help countries develop the best combination of testing services – such as self-testing, index testing, and various forms of testing services in the community and institutions – appropriate to their settings. Countries can also track the progress of the number of new people learning about their HIV status.
“We use the data to intensify efforts to reach the remaining people living with HIV who do not know their status and facilitate linking to care by prioritizing and differentiating testing so that we can reach underserved geographical areas and populations in Uganda. The dashboard is a useful tool to help make decisions and move our national strategy, ”said Geoffrey Taasi, Program Officer, HIV Testing Service, Ministry of Health, Uganda.
The dashboard data is a mix of WHO and UNAIDS data, national program data, modeled estimates and population survey data – they also include the status of testing services implementation and national policies. The data used were selected in agreement with representatives of ministries of health, research partners, local and international implementing partners and donors.
