Coronavirus: Rahab Government is a daily virus report. BBC News
Dominic Raab said the government’s “step-by-step action plan” would slow the spread of viruses, because fewer people need hospital treatment.
The Foreign Secretary noted that the government has followed scientific and medical advice and has appeared “very intentional” in its actions.
He confirmed the death toll in the UK has now reached 5,373.
He pays tribute to the dead and all front line workers.
Dominic Raab says the prime minister is still in the hospital, but “in a good mood.”
And he said the government is still “united” in the face of the crisis.
The government has moved 20,000 people from Spain, 13,000 from Egypt and 8,000 from Indonesia, along with 2,000 from seven other countries.
Raab adds: “For passengers stuck abroad, we are doing everything we can to keep airports open and commercial flights [running] and charter flights. ”
He continues: “Every government group is doing everything they can to defeat the virus … at home and abroad.”
Raab concludes his remarks by thanking the NHS for “heroic work”.
