EMUI 11 also has an “Earthquake Warning” feature just like MIUI

Last year, Xiaomi introduced a useful feature called “Earthquake Warning” with the release of MIUI 11. This feature is limited to Sichuan Province in China where this region has been famous for multiple earthquakes for centuries. Now, HUAWEI, the largest smartphone brand in China, has implemented a similar feature in EMUI 11, which is the latest version of the mobile operating system.

EMUI 11 was officially unveiled at the HUAWEI DEVELOPER CONFERENCE 2020 in September. Although the company’s latest mobile software still relies on Android 10 just like EMUI 10.1 and EMUI 10, it brings a bunch of new features and functions.

Also, the company promised to add some specific Android 11 features before updating eligible devices to HarmonOS next year.

However, in our article on EMUI 11 features, we missed two important features – video alarm and earthquake warning. Because these two features are limited to certain regions in China and our coverage was based on global ROM.

But now, as Huawei starts rolling out EMUI 11 stable designs, users in China are starting to share the presence of the ‘earthquake warning’ feature on Weibo. According to ITHome, as we mentioned at the beginning, this feature is restricted to users in Sichuan County.

It can be enabled from Settings> Security> Emergency warning notification> Earthquake warning. When this feature is turned on, the phone will notify the user when an earthquake occurs nearby.

Likewise, EMUI 11 also introduces another unique feature called Video Alarm. This allows users to video call the police in case of an emergency. Currently, this feature is limited to Guangdong Province.

Having said that, with the popularity of Huawei and its user base, we expect these two features to make their way to more regions across China in the coming months.
