Peak Ronja, captured in 2017, will head a free concert to mark the 10th anniversary of the Christchurch earthquake on February 22.

Peak Ronja will lead a free concert to mark the tenth anniversary of the Christchurch earthquake on February 22, 2011.

Christchurch City Council said the concert, called Utahi together, will take place on February 28, after a memorial service on Memorial Day.

The memorial service will take place at the city’s National Monument, Ui Manawa, which is located by the Avon River and displays the names of 185 people who lost their lives in the disaster.

“It is important to remember on this important anniversary and appreciate those who have died, those who were seriously injured, the traumatized, and everyone who endured hardship or lost something of value to them,” said Matt Nichols, the Council’s Director of Civil and International Relations.

The memorial service will begin at 12:30 pm on February 22nd and will be broadcast live and will be available upon request for those who cannot attend.

Nichols said that more details about the memorial service would be revealed soon.

Meanwhile, the uttautahi Together party, presided over by Ronja, will be held in the Archery Garden of the Botanical Gardens on February 28 to mark the 10th anniversary of the celebration.

Nichols said the Quake Family Fund is supporting the end of celebrations to an event “focused on the healing power of music”.

“The concert will be an opportunity for us to reflect on how we got there and in Kutahitanga (our unity) as we look to the future,” said Nichols.
