Mt Roskill Bunnings closes “until further notice” due to earthquake concerns

The Mount Roskill Bunnings store has temporarily closed after concerns that its parking lot is prone to earthquakes.

Bunnings temporarily closed Mt Roskill, Auckland after engineers raised concerns about the parking lot’s resilience in the face of earthquakes.

Fences were raised around the car park and warehouse on Friday.

A statement from the hardware chain said the store would close “until further notice as we work through the next steps with the owner and engineers.”

Bunnings NZ director Jacqui Coombes apologized to clients for the shutdown.

She said, “We have to make sure that our stores are safe for the team and customers and we thank customers for their understanding.”

Larry Waterhouse is working on his final days at Bunnings Rangiora, one of seven to shut down after the company announced a Covid-19-related decline.

“We are making sure our team is sponsored during this time and will either reposition them in nearby stores or offer individual options that suit them.

“We are working with the owner and engineers on the next steps and will update our customers and the community as quickly as possible.”

The statement stated that their account managers will continue to provide services to commercial clients.

Combs said retail customers have a range of Bunnings stores nearby they can shop at, including Manukau, Gray Lynn, Mount Wellington and New Lynn.

They can also shop online and have items delivered home.

The building is not the first to be closed due to earthquake fears in Auckland.

The Leys Institute buildings in Ponsonby were also closed as they were deemed unsafe in the event of an earthquake.

In late 2019, the buildings of the Leys Institute in Ponsonby, owned by Oakland Council, were deemed unsafe for the occupation and closed.

The 114-year-old buildings are home to the Leys Institute Library and Gymnasium.

Auckland Director of Customer Service and Community Ian Maxwell said the probability of an earthquake in Auckland was low compared to other areas and there was no “immediate danger”, but the council had to ensure the safety of building users.

View photos The advantages of comparing online car insurance quotes are the following: Online quotes can be obtained from anywhere and at any time. Unlike physical insurance agencies, websites don't have a specific schedule and they are available at any time. Drivers that have busy working schedules, can compare quotes from anywhere and at any time, even at midnight. Multiple choices. Almost all insurance providers, no matter if they are well-known brands or just local insurers, have an online presence. Online quotes will allow policyholders the chance to discover multiple insurance companies and check their prices. Drivers are no longer required to get quotes from just a few known insurance companies. Also, local and regional insurers can provide lower insurance rates for the same services. Accurate insurance estimates. Online quotes can only be accurate if the customers provide accurate and real info about their car models and driving history. Lying about past driving incidents can make the price estimates to be lower, but when dealing with an insurance company lying to them is useless. Usually, insurance companies will do research about a potential customer before granting him coverage. Online quotes can be sorted easily. Although drivers are recommended to not choose a policy just based on its price, drivers can easily sort quotes by insurance price. Using brokerage websites will allow drivers to get quotes from multiple insurers, thus making the comparison faster and easier.
