Iran’s top nuclear scientist Mohsen Fakhrizadeh has been killed near the capital Tehran, the country’s defense ministry has confirmed. He died at Fakhrizadeh Hospital after an attack in Absard, Damavand County. Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif has condemned the killing “as an act of state terror.” Western intelligence agencies believe Fakhrizadeh is behind an undercover Iranian nuclear weapons program. “If Iran ever chooses to arm (enrich) it, it would know that Fakhrizadeh is the father of the Iranian bomb,” a Western diplomat told Reuters in 2014.
