The materials from the collapsed CTV building, where 115 people died in the February 2011 earthquake, have been stored in a gated complex and are now being transported.
The government is spending $ 1 million to move building debris from a sensitive earthquake a kilometer into the Christchurch debris.
Tons of materials from buildings where people were killed or injured in the February 2011 earthquake, including CTV and PGC, have been kept in a gated complex in Burwood Resource Recovery Park, deep in Bottle Lake Forest, since 2011.
The materials should be preserved in case they are needed as evidence during any court proceedings.
The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has begun moving materials, now no longer needed, to another area of the park – near two 25-meter-high mounds formed by the debris of an insensitive building that has been thrown into the park.

The area will eventually be curated and opened to the public as part of the Forest Park.
The move disturbed the families of the victims, who expected to be part of a blessing that took place at the site on November 2.
David Lynch, an advocate for the CTV Families Group, said he is not aware of any families who have been told of the event.
He said that due to the sensitivity of the material removed from the CTV site, families expected to be able to attend.
“This news was very upsetting for families whose loved ones were never returned.”

Material from the collapsed PGC building, where 18 people died, has been stored in a fenced portion of Burwood Resource Recovery Park since 2011 and is now on its way to another section of the park.
A Nima spokesman said the blessing was made to “protect workers from transporting materials.” Another will be held when the area is coordinated, before it is opened to the public.
He said the agency was working with Christchurch City Council, communicating with the bereaved families and the injured.
The cost of transporting the materials will depend on the final number of weight transferred, but it has been estimated at around $ 1.1 million.
The spokesman said the wreckage had to be removed because the clearances did not allow the materials to remain at the first site for long.
The transfer was expected to be completed by the end of December.
Landscape plans are being developed for the wider area and the council can consult with those affected.
“The area will simply be coordinated to form a peaceful and respectful place, with plans that include a grassy hill and mostly local farms.”

Simple signage has been proposed and will be presented to the bereaved family group as part of their draft landscaping plan.
Since the earthquakes, Burwood Resource Recovery Park has also welcomed thousands of trucks loaded with timber, steel and concrete from earthquake-damaged buildings in the city.
The landfill was supposed to be closed in 2017, but due to a slower than expected rate of demolition, along with large volumes, new approval has been granted so that work can continue until 2021.
The park stopped accepting deliveries in December 2019, but the council is now proposing to keep a portion of the 9.6 hectares of the park open for another five years to accept low-polluted soils.

Thousands of truckloads of materials from destroyed buildings destroyed by the earthquake in Christchurch ended up in Burwood Park to recover resources.
The board decided last week to approve the extension, but supplier approval would be needed before moving forward.
About 600 trucks are expected to reach the site per month. During its peak period, the site was visited by as many as 4,000 trucks per month.
Rod Miller, head of the Waitikere population group, said he was not aware of the plan and that residents were looking to close the dump.
“There’s no way the population would want to put up with this for five years.”
A council report said that low-level polluted soil should be sent to Kate Valley in northern Canterbury because there is nowhere to go within the city.
The council hoped to allow flooding of the soil in Burwood, reduce the risk of illegal dumping and provide a local, low-cost disposal site.
