Thursday: Ben Browning’s 30th anniversary of the New Madrid earthquake predictions

In a 1990 interview, the late Ibn Browning, a self-proclaimed climate scientist, predicted that the St. Louis would experience a major earthquake along the New Madrid seismic zone. He predicted that would happen around December 3, 1990, sparking a media outcry in the small town of New Madrid, Missouri, and causing many to stock up on emergency supplies.

Thirty years later, the region has yet to experience the magnitude of the tremor Browning had predicted.

On Thursday in St. Louis Live, guest host Jonathan Ahl will speak with Emeritus Professor of Geophysics at St. Louis University, Robert Hermann, who has spent his career studying earthquakes in the region. They will look back at Browning’s predictions and where things stand today.
