It all began when I stopped by the futuristic home of the Washington County Historical Society over the weekend in their open house.

Upon entering, I notice this adorable dollhouse that has been donated to the WCHS Foundation. Not only was it constructed correctly, it sat on a rotating base that was completely coordinated. The interior is perfectly decorated and fully furnished. Knowing a little about miniatures, I could see that this doll’s house was worth over $ 2,000.

The historic recorded price for the $ 350 community was very low. So I mentioned this to WCHS CEO Brent Peterson. His comment was “Then you buy it!” I said, “Okay, I’ll sell it then I’ll sell it for more as part of a charity auction that WCHS and Hope House of St. Croix Valley benefit from.”

So the dollhouse moved into my living room where my granddaughter Evelyn Kozlovsky arranged all the furnishings that now looked like they were in the San Francisco earthquake. She finished rearranging the interior, then her sister Amelia joined in to decorate the interior and exterior for the holiday, installing lights in every room.

Now it’s time to take the downtown dollhouse to the window of RM Realty where I work as a real estate agent, once again “earthquake” on a trip to Downtown Myrtle.

While doing the rearrangement process, I decided on Google the name of the person who made the dollhouse and put it together; Her name was on a note on the box of extra pieces that came with the doll.

The note I found read: “Lavon Deroso was a retired teacher from Eagle Point Elementary School in Oakdale. Her retirement hobby was building gorgeous doll houses, and the houses are true to every detail of the time period that they were representing. Lavon wanted to donate her homes to a noble cause.”

When I saw her name appear, I was surprised to see it in obituary form. Now I’m getting goose bumps because I’m thinking I’m fulfilling her wishes! I had a goose blister that I thought was no coincidence that I ended up with this dollhouse with a charity auction in mind.

Standing there looking at her obituary I think “This charity is a tribute to LaVonne who has put her heart and soul into this creation” and I follow her desires.

You’ll see her handiwork in the bedspreads, the curtains, and even the sheets hung on the clothesline! “

The dollhouse now happily spins our window at 124 Main St. N., And there’s a QR code posted in the window so you can bid on it while you like it. The EBay auction will close on Tuesday, December 15th.
