Siyad Hajji was the # 2 pick overall by San Jose Earthquakes in the 2019 MLS Draft, and after a 41-minute season at MLS level, he’s back for more in 2020.

Remarkably, it was almost the same story for him in his sophomore year with earthquakes.

Haji spent a lot of time on loan to Renault 1868 in 2019, getting his feet wet at a professional level, and was also loaned to Renault’s inaugural season this year, along with several other Quakes players, and he started and went 65 minutes in that match, beginning As an attacking midfielder.

But he had to wait for his role on the MLS front, to make his debut this season on October 7 and play again four times, all off the bench, at Earthquakes. With no more loans after the season resumed, he didn’t see much time in competitive matches throughout the year.

With his playing time being 49 minutes long at MLS level, it is difficult to draw any major conclusions about his game in 2020. He has just turned 21, a player of the Adidas generation and appears to be still in this rookie bargain, with the team announcing that he is Contracted for the 2021 season.

We’ve seen that Matthias Almeida tends to give each player some playing time, but he also has a specific group and the players outside that position don’t get much time to show what they can do. I think it’s a great year for him, at least with San Jose, like some of the other players on the list who haven’t gotten much playing time. If he manages to break through and show he belongs at the MLS level, I can see him thrive and work his way up to the Almeyda core range. If not, another series of cameos and another round could be on loan. We’ll see what happens.
