Small earthquake shakes Glen County early Sunday morning – Chico Enterprise Record

WILLOWS – A small earthquake jolted residents of Glen County early Sunday morning. The magnitude 3.8 earthquake struck at 6:44 a.m. and had its epicenter about 15 miles east of Willows, according to the US Geological Survey. I felt a second tremor shortly thereafter at 6:59 am one mile north.

The earthquake was felt in many neighboring cities including Colossa in the south, Biggs and Gridley in the east, reaching as far north as Orlando and Chico and even a slight rumble in Corning.

The tremor turned out to be minimal as local businesses were not affected on Sunday and no damages were reported either to the mayor of Glen County or the Orlando Fire Department as of Sunday morning.

But some residents of Orlando felt the shake, including Orlando residents Abel Hernandez, a former kick coach for the Boot College football team, and his wife, Mona Hernandez. Abel said he felt the house shake and woke Mona to inspect the trees in the front yard, where it felt as if someone had fallen.

Seeing that no trees fell, Abel realized that he had just experienced an earthquake scarcity in the area.

At the Walmart Supercenter in Orlando, employees were not exposed to any damage or fall from shelves Sunday morning, as did Sav Mor in Orlando.

Assistant store manager at Sav Mor in Orlando Queen Hall said he arrived at 6:30 am on Sunday and didn’t feel the vibration.

“Fortunately, but unfortunately I didn’t feel it here,” Hall said. “It was great to be away from something like this.”

Starbucks on Humboldt Street in Willows also did not feel the vibration and saw no damage to the interior, although the exterior has yet to be inspected according to store supervisors.
