A small earthquake strikes near San Juan Bautista – CBS San Francisco

SAN FRANCISCO (CBSSF) – A small 3.2-magnitude earthquake shook the northern end of the Gabelan mountain range near the town of San Juan Bautista Sunday morning, the US Geological Survey said.

The earthquake struck shortly after 11 am on Sunday about two miles underground at the epicenter located about 10 miles west of Hollister near the San Andreas Fault.

There were no reports of damage.

And earlier Sunday, a 3.9-magnitude earthquake struck the foothills of the Sierra Mountains 14 miles from Chico. People felt the earthquake as far away as Sacramento.

About 234 earthquakes with a magnitude of 3.0 to 4.0 occur every year in California and Nevada.
