President Trump imposed a state of emergency on Washington DC – BBC News

On Monday, President Trump imposed a state of emergency on Washington DC until Jan. 24, allowing the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to act to “prevent the threat of disaster.” Chad Wolf, acting head of DHS, said he had ordered the U.S. Secret Service to begin operations on Wednesday – six days earlier – “taking into account the events of the past week and the evolving security landscape.” Later Monday, Mr. Wolf became Trump’s third prime minister after the riots, followed by Betsy DeVos and Elaine Chao. Wolf said “recent events” have affected his departure, including court rulings challenging the legal validity of the appointment. U.S. security officials have warned of armed protests across the country in the days leading up to the inauguration of Joe Biden. Armed groups planning to gather in the state’s 50 capitals and Washington DC are reported ahead of the Jan. 20 inauguration. Security plans are tightening for the event, with the pro-Trump crowd attacking Congress two weeks from now. House Democrats said a vote will be held on Wednesday to impeach the president. President Trump has been accused of “causing insurgency” and said he will vote if Vice President Mike Pence does not call for constitutional powers to remove Mr. Trump from office. There is no sign that Mr. Pence is ready for this. Please subscribe HERE .
