It was by no means a massive Earth-destroying earthquake, but I feel that earthquakes are so random in New England that no matter how big or small they are, we’re all usually like, “Whoa! Earthquake?! Here ?!”

This was pretty much what it was like in Downeast Maine on Sunday (which shows it’s here on a Wednesday morning, and it was so simple that I – oh, there was an earthquake? Wow. Let me blog about it because the earthquake is in the main area!). According to Channel 8 WMTW, a small earthquake of 2.8 degrees on the Richter scale struck Washington County – southeast of Centerville and northwest of Jonesboro.

The earthquake struck around 1: 37p, but again, it was just too small for anyone to notice. It’s funny to me how some people can feel it while others don’t. Before I moved to Tulsa, I was at home in New Hampshire maybe enough for a few reported earthquakes, and I was somewhat near the epicenter, but I didn’t feel anything. However, I was opening Facebook only to see what everyone was intending to do, and there would be a few “Did you feel that?” Leaflets talking about the earthquake that I did not even feel.

That might be a mental thing with me. Because when I hear the term earthquake, I immediately think like roads that split and collapse buildings.

I actually didn’t feel the first earthquake until I was living in Tulsa, actually. I was at my desk and I felt some rumbling. It wasn’t a wild thing and it wasn’t like a long shake like you see in the movies. It lasted for 5 seconds – I felt a chair started to vibrate randomly and I saw a picture of a rattle on the wall, then it’s over.

I think the best part of all of this, other than the fact that everyone was safe and nothing bad happened, was our manager at the time. His office was about 20 feet from my office space (we had the open office concept), and I looked at it confusedly. He shrugged and said “earthquake.” The ringtone was funny.
