A magnitude 2.4 earthquake occurred in Ohio, Michigan

An earthquake measuring 2.4 on the Richter scale occurred outside Lima and Fort Shawnee, Ohio, and was felt by people on Friday night in Michigan.

According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), a 2.4-2.5 earthquake jolted Lima and Fort Shawnee, Ohio with a tremor reaching across state lines on Friday January 22nd hours overnight.

Weak epicenter 2.4 was near the small village of Fort Shawnee and captured by a few Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) cameras. Watch the ODOT video below.

The earthquake occurred at 12:22 am on Friday morning. The last earthquake was in the area in 2019, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources. The quake struck at a depth of 6.7 kilometers, according to the US Geological Survey.

This earthquake followed the smaller earthquake on March 2 with an estimated magnitude of 5.4. Significant damage occurred to Anna and the surrounding communities, including damage to nearly every chimney in Anna, cracks and separation of walls in the school, rotating monuments of graves, changes to water wells, and other minor to moderate damage. Anna’s school was later condemned and demolished.
